Homer's Book Series
Building Confident Readers One Child at a Time
Welcome to a world of fun reading!
The Homer stories are all about encouraging children to enjoy reading, which builds their confidence and teaches great life skills. The more a child feels successful while reading, the
more they will want to read.
As a first grade teacher for 34 years, I know that teaching children how to read is only the beginning. The real work is inspiring them to want to read, learn and experience adventure through stories.
That is why I created Homer’s Book Series. These stories are a blend of key ingredients that give children the skills they need to be a successful reader; words that can be decoded, words from a
standard list of high frequency words and vocabulary words.
Homer is a fictional little mouse in each story, written and illustrated for ages three to seven. Through his adventures, a character-building lesson emerges; sharing, helping others and being brave,
to name a few. Parents are encouraged to read along with their child and discuss what is happening in the story. Discussing the story with children develops their language and communication skills. Interaction between parent and child has many benefits
and creates a love for reading.
Teachers in the classroom or home school can use these early reader books for many kinds of enrichment; from class libraries, take-home readers, small group reading or independent reading time.
Meet Homer and His Family
Homer is a mouse who belongs to a family of five. He’s not the oldest nor the youngest. He’s young, but mature for his age. He is loving, caring and adventurous. He is a kind and thoughtful mouse
who is always helping in some way.
Each story gives children the opportunity to join him as he
uses basic skills and life skills through his adventures.
I hope you and your child enjoy these books as
much as I have enjoyed creating them!
Happy reading!
